Scratch Kyrgios wins Mexican Open in the wake of beating Alexander Zverev

Australia's Nick Kyrgios says he arranged for his Mexican Open last triumph over world number three Alexander Zverev by going plane skiing.

The 23-year-old beat Zverev 6-3 6-4 to win his fifth ATP Tour title.

Kyrgios began the week 72nd on the planet - his most minimal positioning in five years, yet is relied upon to come back to the world's main 30 after this success.

"I should be much progressively taught, way better expertly and do the correct things," he said.

"I don't have a mentor, so perhaps I begin there."

Kyrgios, who achieved a lifelong high positioning of 13 out of 2016, included: "I went fly skiing at 5:30pm [before playing Zverev], so I don't assume that is the thing that a best 10 player would do."

Zverev was the third best 10 player Kyrgios beat to achieve the last, after triumphs over Rafael Nadal and John Isner and a success against three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka.

"I realized I was the longshot going in," said Kyrgios, who was given a silver pear trophy and a dark sombrero after his success. "I didn't anticipate much."
